Chris (that’s me) was born in the beautiful, green and leafy state of Massachusetts. There I ran amok through the woods and fields, risked life and limb on ponds and swamps on rafts in the summer, and on skates in the winter. As a teen-ager I moved with my family to sunny, golden-hued San Diego, where I learned to eat tacos and avocados, to wear white socks with jeans and a T-shirt, and was introduced to twenty-year-old automobiles that were not rusted through. Amazing. An old car in Mass. was five-years-old, and by then was usually fifty percent bondo by weight.
After enduring highschool, and then enjoying a rather long stint in the art department (and Philosophy Department) at the local community college (where I earned an AA), I transferred to CSULB and earned a BA in General Art, and then an MFA in Crafts.
I’ve been a working freelance illustrator for over 15 years, and am still as excited about creating images as I was back then when I could still possibly be considered “bright-eyed and bushy-tailed…”
I enjoy creating fun, humorous, wacky and whimsical visuals for a variety of clients. I work both on paper and digitally. I do my line work in brush or pen and ink on paper, or in pencil, and then I scan it. I use both natural watercolor or digital color for my color work. So, whether the drawing starts out with natural media, it is at some point digitized and edited in PhotoShop, Illustrator, Flash, or AfterEffects. In the end, I deliver to you a digital file (to your specifications), ready to be plugged into the client’s layout.
My work is mostly humor. Editorial, advertising, humorous illustration. Pen and ink, pencil, watercolor, digital color; and digital illustration. All work delivered digitally and on schedule. I know what a deadline is, and have never been late on one.
Why hire me?
In addition to my phenominal artistic ability ;) and unique, creative solutions, you will find when you hire me that I also work and play well with others: I have good communication skills, I am willing and able to take direction or to take the lead, as the project requires; I’m happy to bounce ideas back and forth and tune a concept to fit the needs of the project, or run with it and develope ideas and solutions myself on the fly. I’m fast: I can produce large amounts of work in a short period of time. I’m creative: I continually strive for unique interpretations to fit with and enhance the project. I’m diligent and stick to the schedule, and more often than not have the work completed ahead of the due date.
